    Donald Trump, News, Women

In the days following the FBI raid on the offices of Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s longtime personal attorney, there have been plenty of developments that have raised more than a few eyebrows. Not only did we find out that the FBI is investigating Cohen himself for financial crimes, but that some of the information that agents sought involved the cases of Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, two women who had affairs with Trump shortly after he was married to his current wife, First Lady Melania Trump.

There has even been speculation that Cohen may have had recordings on the premises of conversations that he had with Trump or other clients, the privacy of which could be compromised by either a client’s agreement to be recorded in the first place, or by Cohen not securing their permission, which would make the recordings illegal.

But the case making its way through the courts right now pertains to the aforementioned adult film actress Stormy Daniels, AKA Stephanie Clifford, and the dueling lawsuits over the non-disclosure agreement that Cohen got her to sign just before the presidential election in 2016.

Cohen’s own lawyers officially notified the court Thursday evening that they wanted a stay on the defamation case brought by Ms. Daniels against the president’s attorney, and claimed that proceeding with that case would invoke Cohen’s Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself — a curious turn in a case that Cohen called “frivolous” and “without merit” when it was first filed by Daniels and her lawyer, Michael Avenatti.

But it’s a tweet by Daniels’ lawyer — well in advance of Cohen’s lawyers’ notification to the court of their intent to seek a delay on the case — that indicates that he cornered Cohen into a position to accidentally admit that there is, in fact, merit in the proceedings regarding Stormy and the affair that took place beginning on Trump’s golf course in 2006.

How an adult film actress ended up with a lawyer more skilled than the personal attorney of the President of the United States is beyond anyone’s comprehension. But if Avenatti can hold Team Trump to the standard of not pleading the Fifth if they’re so innocent… Then they aren’t so innocent after all.
