Republicans often find themselves laughing stocks because of their policies and out of touch social views. However, sometimes they get a little help from the most unexpected places. Such was the case for Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) during a friendly photo-op in front of a group of students during a recent visit to a local Florida middle school this week.

While trying his hardest to look like he’s Hundo P (100 percent) lit (cool) AF (as fuck), one savage student reminded everyone that Gaetz is nothing more than another thirsty (attention seeking) Trump suckup by throwing shade (an insult) using a classic hand gesture that just about every generation understands.

While her fellow students were “dabbing” behind the oblivious lawmaker, one young lady decided to photobomb Gaetz by giving him the world-famous one-fingered salute. And for some reason, the lawmaker chose to share the embarrassing photo on his Facebook.

Unfortunately, the girl’s intense political statement landed her in hot water with her mom, who immediately apologized on Facebook for her daughter’s gesture.

“As the mother of the little girl very disrespectfully flipping the ‘bird,’ I will be dealing with her at home tonight! I absolutely have raised her better than this, and I promise this will NEVER happen again!” she wrote.

“I have been dealing with her wanting to ‘fit in’ and I promise you, I am livid,” she continued. “Political views aside, this is completely unacceptable. Mr. Gaetz, I apologize on behalf of my daughter. I am very sorry this occurred.”

Meanwhile, Gaetz, to his credit, showed some class in dealing with the incident by reassuring the mother that it should serve as a teachable moment for her daughter.

“Her congressman has also had an occasional lapse of judgement as a middle schooler,” Gaetz replied. “Teaching moments like this are a good thing. I had a lovely time with the students.”.

While it’s big of Gaetz to admit to being involved in some grade school shenanigans when he was her age, perhaps he could also explain his more recent offensive behavior? Like voting for allowing people to carry concealed-carry permits into his state from other states. Or voting to eliminate the independent board tasked with ensuring Medicare costs are held in check. Maybe he can explain why he voted to infringe on her right to be in control of her reproductive organs on multiple occasions?

Gaetz may have scored a few maturity points for how he handled an embarrassing photo. However, when it comes to his support of the most immature president in U.S. history, he’s working from a noticeable deficit.

I'm a reformed "South Park Conservative" who has grown passionate about progressive issues like social justice, education, criminal justice reform, gun control, ending the war on drugs, and economic inequality. I believe America's a stronger nation when we come together as one to find a solution and humble ourselves enough to consider other points of view from our neighbors around the world. I don't believe in American exceptionalism, but I do believe America can only be an exceptional place as long as we can be brutally honest about its strengths and weaknesses.
